Tom Glenn
On August 7, 2014, the Leander ISD Board of Trustees voted to name the district's sixth high school after Tom Glenn.
Mr. Glenn spent more than 33 years in education. He earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education as well as his master's degree in education administration from Texas A&M University. Later, he received his mid-management and superintendent's certification from Southwest Texas State University. He began his education career at College Station ISD teaching fourth grade. Mr. Glenn went on to serve LISD in various administrative positions for 28 years, including 20 as superintendent.
Mr. Glenn's lasting legacies in LISD include his effort championing continuous improvement principles in public education. Under his leadership, these concepts were introduced in LISD and helped the entire district view its efforts as a system and a set of processes working together to achieve a common goal. These goals are exemplified through another one of Mr. Glenn's legacies: the development of LISD's Guiding Documents (Graduate Profile, Ten Ethical Principles, Leander ISD Learning Model and The Leander Way).
Mr. Glenn developed a reputation for excellence through a period of record-setting student population growth. In his first year as superintendent, LISD was comprised of 4,589 students, five schools and 662 employees. Upon his retirement, LISD had grown to 24,251 students, 28 schools and 3,299 employees. During his tenure, all of the buildings in the District were approved for funding, completed, added to, or renovated, with the exception of Block House Creek Elementary.
His greatest legacy, however, is a generation of students who graduated with the knowledge, skills and character required to become true leaders in their chosen careers and communities.
Mr. Glenn and his wife Dee Ann have been married for 46 years. They have two children: John, and his wife Abby, live in Liberty Hill with their four children; and Courtney and her husband, Mike, live in Leander and have one child. Dee Ann was a teacher in LISD, and both John and Courtney are graduates of Leander High School.
