PSAT - Wednesday, October 30th for all 9th -11th graders

Wednesday, October 30, 2019, all 9th through 11th graders at Glenn will be taking the PSAT during the school day.  There is no registration necessary for this exam.  The PSAT will begin at 8:40 am and end at approximately 1:30pm.  Please cancel or rearrange morning appointments to occur after 1:30pm as there is no make-up date for this exam as this date is set by the College Board.  Testing day room assignments will be posted on Monday, October 28th in the Union.

Our 9th grade students take the PSAT 8/9 .

  • We use the PSAT data with the College Board program, “AP Potential”, to identify students who are not taking advanced course work when scores show they would be successful. We use this data to talk with kids and parents about their student’s academic development and college readiness.
  • This is a perfect opportunity to get a feel for the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) when score based scholarship opportunities are available to students.
  • Use the score as a comparison tool year to year to better identify strengths and struggles and allow for support before the sitting for the SAT in 11th grade for college admission.
  • Earn STAAR Exemptions for Algebra 1 and English 1
  • The PSAT score that each student receives is used as a qualifier for the college ready benchmark (TSI) for enrollment in ACC/Dual Credit courses at Glenn.

Our 10th graders take the PSAT/NMSQT.

  • The PSAT score that each student receives is used as a qualifier for the college ready benchmark (TSI) for enrollment in ACC/Dual Credit courses at Glenn.
  • The score on the 10th grade PSAT is used to determine participation in the PSAT Team.
  • It is valuable practice to prepare students for the PSAT/NMSQT and SAT their 11th grade year.

Our 11th grades take the PSAT for the following reasons:

  • To receive feedback to make a study plan based on strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college admissions testing
  • To help prepare and familiarize students with questions and formatting of the SAT
  • The PSAT score that each student receives is used as a qualifier for the college ready benchmark (TSI) for enrollment in ACC/Dual Credit courses at Glenn.
  • To be considered for specialized scholarships and college information through “Student Search”. Students will opt into student search.
  • This is the year used as a qualifier for the National Merit program for Semifinalists or Commended students and National Hispanic Recognition Programs.
